SACRA/PROFANA is proud to present “A Space to Belong”, featuring the World Premiere of a new work by composer Dr. Cory Hibbs “All We Need Meditations on Queer Being”.

Devised as a season-long collaborative project, this stirring new piece is a multi-movement choral work drawing from the personal narratives of the composer, choir members, and members of the queer community, exploring the significance of safe spaces to the survival of any marginalized community.

Composer Cory Hibbs, Juan Carlos Acosta, and the SACRA/PROFANA ensemble collaborated on this very personal world premiere work for over a year. Cory Hibb's accompanying art installation, supported by the California Arts Council, compliments the choral piece providing a physical and emotional pre-concert experience that prepares us for the music.

Come beforehand and experience the art installation, “Blanket Fort” also by Cory HIbbs. “Blanket Fort" is an interactive art installation designed to evoke the nostalgia of childhood blanket forts while exploring the deeper theme of safe spaces, particularly within the context of queer communities. This piece serves as a powerful metaphor for the resilience and creativity required to establish personal sanctuaries in a world that often denies or challenges their existence.

Stay afterwards for a talkback with the composer and conductor, Juan Carlos Acosta.
